Glowing rainbow card

I have a fun unicorn card with a glowing rainbow to show today. It’s a simple little card but it’s super cute and I have a small trick to share too. So keep reading!

I started by planning out my layout. I colored and cut out my unicorn and diecut the rainbow and moved them around until it looked good. To have the light shine through the rainbow I diecut it out of the background and backed it with vellum. I put the diecut on top again and colored the rainbow using markers.

Before putting the vellum behind the card front I also draw the outline on a piece of cardstock the same size to know where to put the lights.

I added three white Chibitronic lights behind the arch of the rainbow and put the battery under the butt of the unicorn. It’s a simple push switch but here is the trick I promised earlier. Sometimes when doing push switches the copper tape lies against the battery even when you’re not pressing down, so the lights turn on and the batteries run out. If you make sure the layers of foam tape are thicker than the battery and put some adhesive on the back of the flap it will keep it from accidentally falling down on the battery, causing the lights to turn on.

The last step is to stick the card front on the foam tape and to decorate, add the diecut and the unicorn. I made the rainbow dimensional by cutting it multiple times from cardstock and sticking them together. The last layer is cut from matte metallic cardstock. I stuck down most of the insides of the clouds. Before sticking down the last layer I embossed it with glitter embossing powder before gluing it down.

There you go, a pretty simple but effective card that would make anyone happy. You can switch out the rainbow for anything really. Look through your stash and see what would look even better with some lights behind. Have fun!

Thank you for stopping by!
